Diabetes and obesity: Diabesity with Sharon Weinstein President, Core Wellness
October was Obesity awareness month; in November, we promoted World Diabetes day, which is celebrated worldwide in more than 160 countries.
Obesity and diabetes lead to DIABESITY, a term coined by former Surgeon General, Dr. Everett Koop. Despite significant changes in treatment standards for diabetes, metabolic control is still a concern. U.S. patients routinely take five or more prescription medicines daily. Lack of medical control and an influx in the incidence of diabetes warrants an intensive look at Diabesity. Diabesity is the causal connection between obesity and type 2 diabetes, and it is on the rise! Diabesity is truly a pandemic in this country and beyond.

About the Presenter: Sharon Weinstein
Ms. Weinstein’s background includes 30 years as an educator in a diversity of environments on such subjects as: Workplace Wellness, Sleep, Creating Healing Environments, Feng Shui, Lifestyle Balance, The Air we Breathe, Leadership, Ethics, Stress and Time Management and Humor in the Workplace. President, Core Consulting Group, LLC and Core Wellness International, Sharon founded the Integrative Health Forum (www.ihfglobal.com), an alliance of licensed healthcare professionals whose goal is to create the evidence base for wellness practice. She created the Energy Medicine continuing medical education series offered throughout North America (www.energymedconf.com). She is adjunct clinical professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago College of Nursing.
