Worksite Wellness in Arkansas with Helen Weir, RN, BSN and Rhonda Hill, MPH

An overview of the activities occurring around worksite wellness in Arkansas.

• Discussion of the problem of obesity and the actions taken to address.
• Taking a synergistic approach to solving heal issues though collaborative partnerships, sharing of resources and ideas across disciplines.
• Preview of two new web sites developed:

(1)  partnership with Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention
(2) resources for state employee for healthy living web site.

About the Presenters:

Helen Weir is the “Adults in Worksites” Section Chief at Arkansas Department of Health in the Lifestage Health Branch. Her role is to provide technical assistance and guidance in worksite interventions to promote lifelong health by increasing community and organizational level worksite program systems and through education and training of best practice interventions. Her background is rooted in nursing practice and education to children and adults both in the clinical setting and the public health arena. She is the Administrator of the Arkansas Healthy Employee Lifestyle Program, a comprehensive worksite wellness program for state employees: http://ahelp.arkansas.gov

Rhonda Hill is a Prevention Specialist at the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement. Her responsibilities include designing, implementing and evaluating health promotion programming options to improve modifiable risk behaviors of Arkansans. She serves as the liaison to the Arkansas State Department of Finance and Administration, Employee Benefits Division to collect, analyze and interpret health program data in combination with medical and pharmacy claims data. She also collaborates with the Arkansas Department of Human services to implement a Medicaid Waiver targeted at covering uninsured small-business employers and their employees. Recently her work has led her to focus on addressing obesity in the workplace in partnership with the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention.
