Healthy Workplaces: A Global Model and Guidelines for Action w/ Wolf Kirsten -01060

The World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva has launched a Healthy Workplace Model and Framework which will be further operationalized by global and regional guidelines.

After a systematic literature review on healthy workplaces and extensive consultation with relevant experts the framework combines evidence-based approaches and principles of health protection and health promotion. The model addresses:

• work-related physical and psychosocial risks;
• promotion and support of healthy behaviors;
• broader social and environmental determinants.

The presentation will take a look at global challenges in workplace health promotion, the role of the WHO and how the framework and guidelines plan to help employers with creating healthy workplaces.

About the Presenter:

Wolf Kirsten is Founder and President of International Health Consulting based in Berlin, Germany (www.wolfkirsten.com).

He has assisted numerous international corporations with the implementation and coordination of their health promotion and well-being programs. His consulting portfolio extends from Asia to North America to the Middle East, advising companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Nokia and Cisco. Mr. Kirsten has published and edited extensively
on the global aspects of health promotion and wellness and his book “Global Perspectives in Workplace Health Promotion” will come out in March of 2011.

Mr. Kirsten received his Master of Science in Health Promotion Management from American University in Washington, DC. He is a German native and lived many years abroad (United States, England, Brazil and China).
