Positive Health and Earth Day with Craig Becker – 01043

The interrelationship of personal and planet health were described in Halbert Dunn’s 1959 article, High Level Wellness for Man and Society. In this description he outlined the necessity of a favorable environment to wellness. Systems thinking formalized these relationships by helping us understand we all affect each other and we are all part of the same system. In effect most of us understand that at some level we are all connected. This presentation will discuss and describe the connectedness of positive health, wellness, and the environment. Using a successful business model, ideas about how to make programming decisions that result in beneficial outcomes for the environment, individuals and organizations will be shared.

About the Presenter: Dr. Craig Becker is an associate professor in Health Education and Promotion at East Carolina University. He is passionate about salutogenesis, the origins of health.  Rather than look at health as preventing disease/infirmity by avoiding those things (pollution, accidents, diseases, etc.) that cause bad health, he looks at embracing those things that promote good health. He teaches courses in applied principles of health promotion, consults with industry and educational settings, and has an active research agenda, Craig is an elected member to the Leadership Circle and a Trustee for the National Wellness Institute(NWI).  He has published and presented extensively in the US and Europe.
